Pregnancy & Postpartum Care

Not just for chiropractors and massage therapists.

Prepare for Birth and Recovery

Pregnancy changes how your entire body moves, not just your pelvic floor.

As your baby grows, your abdominal wall, pelvic floor, hips, back, and core adapt to increasing demands. Then birth and the early postpartum period bring an entirely new set of physical challenges.

Pelvic floor physical therapy can help you prepare your body for birth, manage pregnancy related pain, and build a plan for postpartum recovery before problems begin.

Prepare Your Body for Birth

Birth preparation physical therapy is different from a traditional childbirth class. We assess your individual body and musculoskeletal system to help you understand how your pelvic floor, hips, pelvis, breathing, and movement can work together during labor and delivery.

Depending on your needs and birth plans, your sessions may include:

  • Pelvic floor awareness, relaxation, and coordination

  • Breathing and pressure-management strategies

  • Labor and delivery positioning

  • Hip and pelvic mobility

  • Pushing mechanics

  • Perineal preparation

  • Partner-assisted positions and techniques

  • Strategies for moving comfortably during late pregnancy

  • Planning for the physical demands of the first days postpartum

The goal isn't to predict or control your birth, but give you the tools, body awareness, and confidence going into it.

Postpartum Recovery Starts During Pregnancy

The physical demands don't end when your baby arrives! You may realize this but until you experience it, it’s hard to know what to expect.

Feeding, carrying, lifting, rocking, using the restroom, getting on and off the floor, repeatedly bending over a bassinet, maneuvering a car seat, and spending hours in new positions can place significant stress on a recovering body.

Pregnancy can be an ideal time to identify mobility limitations, strength deficits, movement patterns, and areas of pain before those demands increase postpartum.

Does This Sound Familiar?

Pelvic floor physical therapy may be helpful if you:

  • Want to physically prepare for labor and delivery

  • Aren't sure how to push or relax your pelvic floor during birth

  • Want to learn labor positions specific to your body

  • Have back, hip, pelvic, pubic bone, or tailbone pain

  • Are experiencing leaking, pressure, or heaviness

  • Want to continue exercising safely during pregnancy

  • Are worried about diastasis recti or abdominal weakness

  • Want to reduce unnecessary strain on your back, hips, core, and pelvic floor postpartum

  • Are recovering from a vaginal or Cesarean birth

  • Have pain with lifting, carrying, feeding, walking, or caring for your baby

  • Want guidance returning to running, lifting, or exercise

Why Choose Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?

Your pelvic floor works with your abdominals, diaphragm, hips, back, and entire movement system. Changes in one area can affect another.

We assess how your body is moving now, what demands are coming next, and what matters most to you, whether that's preparing for delivery, comfortably carrying your baby, preventing recurring back or hip pain, returning to strength training, or eventually getting back to running.
